Students sit at table creating art together
Two young children focused on creating clay sculptures during an art class, wearing aprons and surrounded by crafting tools on a bright, sunny day.

This weekly after-school art class provides in-depth art instruction with Amanda. Small class sizes ensure individual attention in a supportive, encouraging environment. The goal of this class is to develop creative, confident young artists with the technical skills to make art independently outside of class.

The class structure is as follows:

Guided Independent Art (20 minutes): Students will learn to independently use a variety of mediums (painting, drawing, sewing, papercraft, sculpture) while working on individual art pieces in a fun, collaborative setting.

Core Art Lesson (1 hour): Each class includes a lesson on art history, technique, or a demonstration of a new medium. Each lesson will be followed by a project using that medium.

The class structure is designed to be 25% independent art time to pursue individual creative projects and 75% art education and lessons.

This Spring, we will be covering:

– Pottery: pottery wheel, trimming, hand-building, & glazing (2 classes)

– Painting: acrylic and watercolor (2 classes)

– Fiber Arts: yarn work & sewing (1 class)

– Drawing: still life & people (2 classes)– Independent Projects (1 class)
